John Joseph and Ella Mary (Barkmeier) Morgan


 

Ella Mary Barkmeier, daughter of August Frank and Anna Barbara (Menke) Barkmeier, was born April 26, 1905 near Exeter, Nebraska. She married John Joseph Morgan on June 9, 1926. To this union were born four children: John Raymond, born May 26, 1928, Anna Leah "Lea Ann", born January 18, 1930, William "Bill" Eugene, born July 3, 1932, and Mary Catharine, born May 6, 1934. John Raymond and Mary Catharine died in infancy. Lea Ann married Thomas Dean Votipka on November 10, 1947. Bill did not marry.

John and Ella farmed approximately six miles north and two miles east of Exeter, Nebraska. John died on July 17, 1970 and Ella died on August 30, 1980. Interment was in the Exeter Cemetery in Exeter, Nebraska.

John Joseph Morgan


John, son of the late William and Eva Morgan, was born on a farm north of Exeter, Nebraska on September 2, 1901, and passed on to his eternal reward on July 17, 1970 at Warren Memorial Hospital in Friend, Nebraska. All but fourteen years of his life were spent on this farm.

On June 9th, 1926, he was married to Ella Barkmeier. To this union were born four children, two preceding him in death. Surviving him are his wife Ella, daughter Lea Ann (Mrs. Thomas Votipka), son Bill at home, three grandchildren, Marsha. Bob and Ron Votipka, two brothers, Bill of Omaha, James of Exeter, three sisters, Rose and Mary of Omaha and Mrs. Lewis Pospisal of Friend. Preceding him in death were his infant son and daughter, his parents and a brother and sister

Funeral Services were held at St. Stephen's Catholic Church at 10 o'clock on July 20th with Msgr. Ingenhorst officiating. Pallbearers were a grandson and seven nephews.

Interment was in the Exeter Cemetery.

Ella M. Morgan was born to August and Anna (Menke) Barkmeier on April 26, 1905 at Exeter, Nebraska and passed away on August 30, 1980 at Bryan Memorial Hospital, Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 4 days. She was one of eight children.

She was baptized and confirmed in St. Stephen's Catholic Church and graduated from Exeter High School, Class of 1922.

She taught rural school in districts No. 95 and No. 22 near Exeter.

On June 9, 1926, she was married to John Morgan. To this union were born four children, two of them preceding her in death.

She was a loving mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.

Funeral Mass were held Monday, September 1, 1980 at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen's Catholic Church with Msgr. H. H. Ingenhorst officiating. Mrs. Henrietta Harre was organist and Robert Rhodes sang, "How Great Thou Art" and Nearer My God To Thee".

Pallbearers were two grandsons, Bob and Ron Votipka, and nephews Dr. Wayne Barkmeier, Jerry Barkmeier, Gail Heffelfinger and Roger Johnson.

Interment was in Exeter Cemetery with Farmer & Son, Exeter, in charge.

The family of Ella Morgan wishes to express their sincere thanks for the Mass offerings, the beautiful flowers, memorials, and card received. A sincere thanks to the Altar Society for serving the noon meal and to those who brought food to the Parish Hall and to our homes.

A thank you to Msgr. Ingenhorst and all those that helped with the funeral service. Also to Dr. Zimmer, the Warren Memorial Hospital staff and the Bryan Memorial Hospital staff.
