James Robert Anderson


James Robert Anderson was born to Clyde J. Anderson and Grace (Dare) Anderson on June 3, 1934, in Tripp County, South Dakota, and passed away August 4, 1996, at his home in Exeter at the age of 62 years, 2 months and 1 day. He was an only child.

Jim lived in Burke, South Dakota until 1946, when he moved with his family to Exeter, where they operated the movie theater and had an insulation business.

Jim graduated from Exeter High School in 1952, and attended Doane College. He served in the Army from 1956 to 1958, and was a member of the "Old Guard" in Washington, D.C.

Jim drove a truck for Adamson Livestock and was leased to Armor and Company in Omaha. In 1963, Jim and Milo Springer started S&A Trucking, the business was sold in 1985. Jim dispatched for John Noler Trucking until 1988. He had been ill for the past 10 years.

Jim married Agnes M. Ekeler of Exeter on August 26, 1964, and to them two sons, Douglas and Dennis, were born.

Jim was a member of the Exeter United Methodist Church and Exeter American Legion Post No. 218. He was a past member of the Exeter Village Board and served as Chairman.

Jim was active in the Nebraska Motor Carriers Association and the Exeter Feeders and Breeders Association, who honored him in 1981. Jim enjoyed visiting, playing cards and watching Nebraska football.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Grace Anderson; father-in-law, Henry Ekeler; and niece, Darcee Due.

He is survived by his wife Agnes; sons. Douglas and Dennis; mother-in-law, Marie Ekeler; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathy and Dean Due; nephews, Jim and Bob; and an aunt and uncle, Lola and Herb Wedel; and cousins.

Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist Church in Exeter on Wednesday, August 7th, with the Rev. Melanie Adams officiating. Margaret Votipka accompanied Robert O. Rhodes who sang "How Great Thou Art."

Casket bearers were George (Milo) Springer, Sterling Dyer, Robert Rouch, D.L. Adamson, Duane Moor, Ray Franzen, Harvey D. Johnson and Roger Neemann.

Farmer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
