Duane, Wanda and Brian Luebbe


Funeral service were held Friday, October 1, 1982 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Utica, Nebraska for Duane, Wanda and Brian Luebbe. They died in a plane crash near Berkley Springs, West Virginia on September 26, 1982. In the same accident, Duane's first cousin, Gary Bluhm, and his wife, Jeanne, also died.

Duane Allen Luebbe was born in Friend, Nebraska on March 27, 1947. He was a farmer and volunteer fireman in the town of Goehner, Nebraska. Duane and his brother, Jim, also worked at their father's aerial pesticide spraying service in Beaver, Crossing, Nebraska. Duane graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and was a member of the University of Nebraska Rebounders Club.

Wanda Lea (Barkmeier) Luebbe was born in Friend, Nebraska on November 7, 1947. She attended Kearney State College and graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Both she and Duane taught at Ainsworth High School in Ainsworth, Nebraska before farming near Goehner.

Brian James Luebee was born in Friend, Nebraska on January 9, 1975. He was a student at Centennial Elementary School in Utica, Nebraska.

Duane and Wanda Luebbe are survived by their son Thomas, age 4, and daughter Dawn, age 2; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin (Albertina) Luebbe, Beaver Crossing; his brother and sister-in-law, James and Linda, Omaha; his sisters and brother-in-laws, Janice and Edward Sittler, Grand Island, Diane and Larry Gloystein, Lincoln; his grandmother, Lena Luebbe, Seward; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter (Virginia) Barkmeier, Exeter; her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Wayne and Carolyn Barkmeier, Dover, Delaware; and her sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Roger Keil of David City.

Casket bearers included: James Horne, Leonard Oldehooft, Paul Jensen, Roger Luebbe, Tom Ramsey, Jerry Hackbart, Allan Songster, Bob Votipka, Roger Johnson, Ralph Jensen, Bill Morgan, Gail Heffelfinger, Marvin Schulz, Craig Ulch, John Ulch, Dean Loofe, Phil Roth and Gene Richters. Honorary casket bearers were James Walker, Roger Keil and Daniel Drake.

Interment was in the Beaver Crossing Cemetery in Beaver Crossing, Nebraska.
