In Memoriam
Louis F. Barkmeier

The angel of death has hovered over our community for the past several weeks. Today our sympathy and prayers are with the good wife of Louis Barkmeier and his family. As we look back upon the years that we have known the Barkmeier family, children of August and Anna (Menke) Barkmeier, we can only think of the wonderful way in which this family has served the community, and their church St. Stephen's, and in the business, social and improvement of this community. Lou the eldest son of this family has done so much for this community that it is an utter impossibility to name them. We only know that he has left a wonderful legacy to this community which we know will be carried on through his wife Lucille and his daughters Barbara and Suzanne, their husbands, Gail Heffelfinger and Roger Johnson and their children.

We are deeply grateful to Louis Barkmeier for the many, many good things that he did.

We know that the past few years were not easy for Lou because of ill health, but he accepted his cross of suffering with nary a complaining word, going about his daily tasks with a smile and always a cheerful word for those about him. He carried his cross with patience, perseverance and resignation. Today, we know that his cross has been turned into a Crown of Glory. For those of us left behind, we would do well to remember his example. His deep faith and the example set by his good parents, we can be sure, were the source of his firm convictions.

May the memories of this good man be a source of comfort and peace to his family and to all of his friends.
