Obituary
Frank Ferdinand Barkmeier

Frank Ferdinand Barkmeier was born at Westendorf, Germany, February 26, 1867. When a young man, in the year of 1887, he came to this country, making his home with the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wiszmann for five years. Through his efforts he persuaded his parents and brothers and sister to come to this country, which they did in a few years.  He began farming for himself after his arrival in Nebraska and always lived on a farm.

Frank was a very kind and loving son, brother and uncle. He was good to all who knew him and as especially generous to his nieces and nephews. Two years ago, he underwent an operation and ever since was in poor health. He was confined to his bed this past winter. His mother and adopted sister, Victoria, were his constant companions. They left their home when he was taken sick and lived with him so as to give him all the care he needed. The end came peacefully Sunday morning, March 11, 1928. His one consolation before he passed away was that his nephew, a newly ordained priest, Rev. John Ekeler, administer the last rites of the Catholic church to him and give him his blessing.

Funeral services were held at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church Tuesday, March 11, at 9:30. Solemn Requiem High Mass was celebrated by his nephew, Rev. John Ekeler assisted by Rev. E. Boll, the pastor, and Rev. J. Gilroy of Friend.

His nephews Frank and Henry Ekeler, John, Phillip, Louis and Charles Barkmeier served as pallbearers.

He leaves to mourn his departure his aged mother, Mrs. Mary Barkmeier, his brothers Henry, August, John, William and Fred, one sister, Mrs. Frank Ekeler, and an adopted sister, Miss Victoria Geygcr, a great number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Interment was in the Exeter Cemetery in Exeter, Nebraska.
