A 1905 plat map of the Exeter Township shows that the 80 acre farm of George and Anna Catharine Barkmeier (1918 plat map) was previously owned by Frank Ekeler who was married to George's sister Anna Marie (Barkmeier) Ekeler.

George and Anna  rented the farm from the Ekeler's and purchased it sometime before 1910. Frank and Anna Marie Ekeler then lived on a farm in the Fairmont Township in Fillmore County near the farm of her parents Frederick and Mary Catharine (Tepe) Barkmeier.

Anna Catharine died in 1915 at 38 years of age and George died in 1922 at 49 years of age. The farm was sold to Thomas and Dorothy Hayes in 1926.
