Mary (Klemm) Barkmeier

Mary Klemm, daughter of Frank Mathias and Barbara A. (Hellrich) Klemm, was born near Friend, Nebraska, on July14, 1883, and departed this life at her farm home near Exeter on May 19, 1956 at the age of 72 years, 10 months and 5 days.

On May16, 1905, she was united in marriage to John Barkmeier and lived on the present farm her entire married life. The Barkmeiers observed their golden wedding anniversary in May, 1955.

She is survived by her husband, John, three sons, John Jr. of North Platte, Nebraska, and Phillip and Frank of Exeter; two brothers, Phillip Klemm of Exeter and William Klemm of St. Louis, Missouri; one sister, Miss Kathryn Klemm of Exeter; seven grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral Mass was held at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Exeter at 9:30 a.m. on May 21, 1956, with her nephew, Msgr. John F. Ekeler of Crete as celebrant. Msgr. P. J. Healy of Exeter gave the sermon. Interment was in the Exeter Cemetery under the direction of  Farmer Funeral Home.

Obituary
John Ferdinand Barkmeier

John F. Barkmeier, a long time resident of Exeter, Nebraska, was born May 4, 1881 in Westendorf, Germany. He passed away March 30, 1966 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law John Jr. and Opal Barkmeier in North Platte, Nebraska, where he made his home the last two months.

He reached the age of 84 years, 10 months and 25 days. He was the son of Frederick and Mary Barkmeier. He was united in marriage to Mary Klemm on May 16, 1905, and to this union were born three sons, Phillip, John Jr. and Frank.

He leaves to mourn his passing two sons, John Jr. of North Platte, Nebraska and Frank of Exeter; two daughters-in-law; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Fred and William of Exeter, two sisters, Anna Ekeler of Exeter and Sister Mary Raphael Geyger of McCook, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, his wife Mary and son Phillip. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral service were held Saturday, April 2, 1966 at 10 a.m., at St Stephen's Catholic Church in Exeter with Msgr. Ingenhorst officiating. Pallbearers were Lou Barkmeier, Joe Hassler, Henry Ekeler, Maurice Clark, Edmund Klemm and Richard Henderson.

Interment was made in the Exeter Cemetery.

Those attending from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. John Barkmeier, Jr., Mr. and Mrs Jose Mendez and Mr. and Mrs. Russell Eggers of North Platte; Leonard Barkmeier and Mrs. Clifford Ridenour of Denver, Colorado; Sister Mary Raphael Geyger of McCook, Nebraska; and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Barkmeier of Lincoln, Nebraska.
