Obituary
Peter Becker

Peter Becker was born of Erma and Nicholas Becker, March 25, in the year 1844, at Hüttersdorf, Germany. He came with his parents to America in 1874, coming directly to Nebraska and settled on a farm southwest of Friend, Nebraska.

One year later, on June 6, 1875, he was married to Mary Ann Gerhart to which  ten children were born to this union, three dying in infancy.

He suffered the loss of the wife and mother on October 28, 1894. The following years were hard ones to the father, left alone with the little children.

After the children were all grown, he left the farm coming to live in Friend.

On the 27th of November 1913, he was married to Mrs. Mary Cochran, who preceded him on June 14, 1923.

Peter Becker always lived an active life until a few years ago when his health began to fail, though he was always about town and visiting with friends of which he had many.

About three months ago he was stricken with what proved to be his last illness and passed to his eternal reward on April 8, 1925. aged eighty-one years and fourteen days.

Deceased was a member of the M.V.A. Lodge.

He leaves to mourn his loss four sons and two daughters: Peter E., of Exeter; John, Theodore, Emma and Mrs. Anna Winters, all of Friend; and Nicholas J., of Rapid City, South Dakota.

Mrs. Clara Ross, who visited the father in the fall of 1923, remained here four months in the hopes of regaining her health but her hopes were in vain and preceded her father March 29, 1924, in Lead, South Dakota, where her family remain.

He also leaves twenty-three grandchildren, one great grandchild and one brother, John, of Exeter.

One grandchild passed away two weeks ago, of which the grandfather never knew.
