John Leo Ekeler


John Leo Ekeler was born to Frank Ekeler, Jr. and Anna C. Bougger on April 20, 1932 at Exeter, Nebraska, Fillmore County, and passed away on April 15, 1984, at the Veterans Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 51 years, 11 months and 26 days. He was one of five children in the family.

He lived most of his life in the Exeter area, except for two years of service in the U.S. Army, part of which was in the Korea during the Korean War. He graduated from Exeter High School in 1950. John operated a tree service business in Exeter.

John was married to Patricia A. Edwards at Anaheim, California on February 19, 1955 and to them eight children were born.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Ekeler, Jr., and brother Frank Joseph Ekeler.

He is survived by his mother, Anna C. Ekeler; wife Patricia of Wichita, Kansas; sons, Donald, David, Stephen, Patrick and John M., all of Wichita, Kansas; daughters, Therese Ekeler, Mrs. Richard (Nancie) LaNier, both of Wichita, Kansas and Mrs. James (Mary Lou) White, Dodge City, Kansas; three daughters-in-law, Jill, Cheryl and Vicki Ekeler and two sons-in-law, Richard Lanier and James White; brother, Wilfrid Ekeler of Exeter; sisters, Mrs. Dwight (Mary Ann) Doran of Omaha and Frances Ekeler of Crete, Nebraska; and by five grandchildren, Dustin, Jeffrey, Brandon, Joseph and John Christopher.

Funeral services were held at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Exeter, Nebraska, April 18, 1984 at 10:00 a.m. Interment was in Exeter Cemetery, with Msgr. H. H. Ingenhorst officiating.

Farmer Funeral Home, Exeter, Nebraska, was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers serving were: Richard Lanier, James White, Dwight Doran, Joseph Doran, William Morgan and Jerome Becker.
