Joel Vincent Barkmeier
Joel
Barkmeier, 45, of Creston, Iowa, formerly of Vermillion, South Dakota,
died Friday, July 13, 1990 in Creston as a result of a brain tumor. Mr.
Barkmeier was born December 7, 1944, in Sioux Falls. He graduated from
O'Gorman High School in 1962. He received a bachelor's degree from
Dakota State University and his master's degree from the University of
South Dakota. He married Marcia Scott on December 21, 1966 in Mt.
Vernon. He lived the last five years in Creston where he worked as a
speech clinician for the Area Education Association. When he lived in
Vermillion he worked as a State Farm Insurance agent, and also as a
Professor of Speech Therapy at the University of South Dakota.
He was a member of the Vermillion Chamber of Commerce
and had served as vice president.
Survivors
include his wife; his mother, Maxine Barkmeier, Sioux Falls; two sons
Troy, Sioux Falls, and Jason, Creston; two daughters: Jaymee and Kara,
both at home; two brothers: David, Minneapolis, and Stephen, Mount
Vernon, Illinois; and a sister, Mrs. Paul (Nancy) McAreavey, Redfield.
Services were held Monday in Salem Lutheran Church, Creston, with burial
in Bluff View Cemetery, Vermillion.
