One of the prettiest weddings of the season was solemnized at the St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Exeter, Nebraska, Wednesday, May 31, 1911, Rev. W. McDonald officiating. The contracting parties were two well known and highly esteemed young people, Miss Sophia C. Menke and Mr. Wm. D. Matthews. The young lady of a pioneer family of Fillmore County, the young man of a pioneer family of York County. The parents on both sides are well to do, the young people possessing their ancestral qualities will succeed in life. The solemn ceremony at the church, which was grand, was witnessed by a large number of friends and relatives. The bride wore a beautiful dress of French lawn trimmed with a dainty embroidery and on her head a bridal veil and a wreath of orange blossoms. The groom was attired in conventional black. Miss Lena Menke attended her sister, while Richard Matthews, Jr., assisted his brother on this happy occasion. The music and singing added much to the solemnity of the wedding. After services a sumptuous wedding breakfast and banquet were served at the home of the bride's mother to a great number of friends. The young couple were the happy recipients of numerous valuable presents from relatives and admiring friends. The young people start out life under the most auspicious conditions, will live on a fine farm belonging to Mr. and Mrs. R. Matthews, Sr., in York County, where they will prosper, also years of happiness is the sincere wish of their many friends.

Mr. William D. Matthews, 82, of McCool Junction passed away in Lincoln Monday, March 10. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCool Junction with Father Cam officiating. Burial will be in the Exeter Cemetery. Farmer Funeral Home of Exeter has charge of arrangements.
