Obituary Lily Gard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Gard, was born January 16, 1884 on a farm two and one-half miles north of Cordova in Seward County, Nebraska. She passed away in Friend, Nebraska, February 11, 1958 at the age of 74 years. After she graduated from the 10th grade in Cordova, she moved to Crete with her family. On November 28, 1905 she was united in marriage to Carl William Ziegler and moved to a farm near Cordova. To this union three children were born, Gladys, Mrs. Lewis Andrews of Cordova; Bernetta, Mrs. Leonard Johnsen of Beaver Crossing; and Gwendolyn, Mrs. Eldon McIlravy of Bellevue. She is survived by her husband, three daughters, nine grandchildren, one sister, three brothers and three sisters-in-law. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, February 14th, at Moore's Funeral Home at Friend with Rev. Sandsted of the Methodist Church officiating. Raymond Gifford sang the Lord's Prayer and Beautiful Isle of Somewhere. Pallbearers were Duane Johnsen, Wayne Heidtbrink, Darrol Larsen, Paul Johnsen, Rex Krasser and Rex Jurgensen. Interment was in the Leland Cemetery near Beaver Crossing. |

Will Ziegler, son of Christian John and Sarah Hummel Ziegler, was born on January 20, 1879 on a farm in Seward County, Nebraska. He attended rural school in District No. 20 in Seward County. As a young man he spent much of his spare time hunting. He married Lily Louise Gard on November 28, 1905 in Crete, Nebraska. He was a farmer all of his life, farming the same land until his retirement. He operated a threshing machine with his brother-in-law for a number of years. After retirement from farming, he lived in Cordova. Will observed his 100th birthday in 1979. He passed away in June 1983. Interment was in the Leland Cemetery near Beaver Crossing. |
