In Memory of

Anna Catharine (Wiszmann) Barkmeier

Mrs. Anna Barkmeier, who died at her home, four miles southeast of Exeter, Sunday, December 26, 1915, at 6 a.m., was born at Exeter, Nebraska, April 20, 1877, aged 38 years, 8 months and 6 days.

She was married in Exeter, Nebraska, September 24, 1896 to Mr. George Barkmeier, where they established on the farm their first home. Her death removes from our midst one whose loss will be deeply deplored. To mourn her she leaves her husband, George Barkmeier, and three children, Catharine, Joseph, now a student at Spalding College, and Charles; her mother, Mrs. Mary Wiszmann; eight sisters, including Sister M. Claudia, O.S.D. of Spalding Academy; three brothers; besides a host of relatives and friends of the Barkmeier and Wiszmann families.

Mrs. Anna Barkmeier was one of those cheerful, patient and uncomplaining dispositions of Christian principles and beliefs, placing at all times, and in all difficulties of life her confidence in Almighty God. Though physically frail, especially the last few years, she ever, even to the end aided her husband in efforts in life's struggle, an together with their children succeeded in a comfortable home, on a fine farm, in happiness and peace.

Mrs. Barkmeier was most kind and generous to ever respond and assist friends and neighbors, as known to all the early settlers of the west, hardships and sorrows were not uncommon to Mrs. Barkmeier. While aiding her husband on a farm and a house, she reared a splendid family of Christian children. She had been sickly for almost two years -- years, months and days made comfortable and happy by ministrations of a true husband and loving children. They made, especially the faithful husband, heroic efforts for her and under a doctor's continual care, nothing was left undone that her long illness might be made comfortable. She was always of a peaceful mind in her sickness and suffering, even to the end, when her eyes opened in peaceful Eternity.

The obsequies, burial and funeral services were held in St. Stephen's Church, Exeter, Tuesday December the 28th, at 10:30 a.m., Fr. McDonald officiating. In addition to the music of the requiem services, prayer were offered for the deceased. The church was filled not only by those who knew her so well, but also by companions of the Barkmeier and Wiszmann families. Her manners, smiles of good cheer and loving life gave her a sacred place in the esteem of all who knew her. The funeral procession followed her remains to the cemetery, her last resting place, to return to the earth, from which her body came, her soul, to the God who made it. May God receive in mercy the soul of her, and grant her that reward vouched to the good and peaceful. May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her, and who will cherish her memory, in the grand example she left as a Christian child and Christian mother.
