Henry Barkmeier and Mary Harre were married in a double wedding ceremony with Henry's sister, Anna Marie Barkmeier, and Frank Ekeler.

The two couples were married in a morning ceremony at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Exeter, Nebraska on April 26, 1898. The Rev. J. H. Hansen was the parish priest at St. Stephen's Church and conducted the double wedding ceremony.

Following the wedding ceremony, the two married couples held a dinner and reception at the Barkmeier residence.

Henry and Mary Barkmeier were married for 33 years, when Mary passed away on July 17, 1931 at the age of 53 years. The couple did not have any children. Henry died on January 26, 1945 at the age of nearly 75 years.
